ASSOWK ACTIVITIES FOR WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY

 



WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY CELEBRATION 

World Social Work Day is observed every year on the third Tuesday in March. The day recognizes the hard work and diligence of social workers. On this day, a global organization of social workers advocates for social justice, human rights, and social development while promoting the best practices in social work.


The world social work day which falls on Tuesday, 21st March, 2023 will be celebrated around the theme, RESPECTING DIVERSITY THROUGH JOINT SOCIAL ACTION. “The theme recognises that change happens locally through our diverse leaderful communities. It also provides an opportunity to acknowledge how communities can make powerful actions that lead to inclusive social transformation” (IFSW, 2023). 


As part of the celebration, The Association of Students of Social Work- KNUST , in collaboration with the Welfare Committee of KNUST SRC and KNUST Peer Counselors will organize a one week celebration on campus KNUST. The celebration will center on understanding Persons living with Disabilities, Including them in all activities, Educating people on disability, Enhancing their Social Skills and Building their capacity for impact.

The celebration will be a three day celebration of which different programs will be held on each day. 


The following is an outline of how the celebration will be:


Thursday : 16th March, 2023

This will be the launch of the program where students will go on floating. 

Selected people will be given the program’s T-Shirts. 

A banner and Placards will be carried around and flyers will be shared . 

Students will talk to people on the need to respect people from different backgrounds and the need to respect the views of persons living with disabilities. 

Places to be visited are Ayeduase market, Tech junction and Kotei market.



Thursday Evening 

Invitation of resource personnel to educate the public on disability at Focus Fm.

Three personnel will be invited. A lecturer from ASSOWK , a counselor and a personnel from Disability and Rehabilitation Students Association. 



Saturday: 18th March, 2023

Capacity building seminar and skills training will be organized where all the student populace will have the opportunity to learn new skills such as beads making, soap making and yoghurt making. However, the focus will greatly be on students with disabilities. 



Tuesday : 21st March, 2023

An educative seminar will be held on campus.

Invitees to speak to students ;

DOS, Jansson and Jansson group, Lecturers.

A well known personnel ( hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah, Samini, Stonebwoy) will be invited.

Students from Senior High schools will also be invited to the celebration. 




These activities are envisaged to impact the lives of persons who are challenged in some aspects of their life, people living with them and the whole KNUST and its environs at large. This will also help project the name of ASSOWK and The Social Work profession.
